LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Most Entergy customers in southwest Lake Charles have had their power restored by late Saturday afternoon, after widespread outages in the area.

High winds in the area had caused the outages, said Entergy spokesman Chip Arnould.

According to the Entergy online power outage map, service is estimated to be restored for those customers still without power by 10 p.m.

Lynn Jones, the Calcasieu Parish Clerk of Court, said he is monitoring how power outages could affect voters in the area.

Outages in the area would affect power lines feeding the St. John Elementary School voting precinct, but should not affect the voting machines themselves, since the machines are equipped with batteries with a 12-hour life, said Jones.

Voters in the precinct also would be provided with temporary lighting if power were not restored by sundown, said Jones.

The high winds have also caused numerous other power outages throughout the Lake Charles area, which are estimated to be fixed by power crews around 10 p.m., according to the Entergy power outage map.
