BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC) -

The State Bond Commission has approved $12 million for Iowa to make improvements to its sewer and wastewater system, according to State Treasurer Ron Henson.

The funds are in the form of Public Improvement Revenue Bonds.

The commission approved a total of $971 million for statewide projects, along with $53 million in interest savings.

"We had several local governments and political subdivisions take advantage of favorable market conditions to refinance debt and save taxpayers money," said State Treasurer Henson. "As a result, we were able to save taxpayers $53 million."
