MOSS BLUFF, LA (KPLC) -

A Moss Bluff man is accused of fourth-offense DWI after running his vehicle off the road and hitting a culvert, a stop sign, and a utility pole, causing it to flip over, trapping him inside, authorities said.

Dustin B. Monceaux, 45, is charged with fourth-offense DWI and careless operation of a vehicle in the single-vehicle crash, which occurred about 9:30 a.m. last Thursday at the intersection of Joe Miller Road and West Armand Street in Moss Bluff.

According to Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, Monceaux was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated.

"When deputies spoke with Monceaux, they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. Monceaux stated that he drank a half pint of liquor.  Deputies also located an open bottle of liquid inside the cab of the truck," Myers said. "After Monceaux, who has three prior DWIs, performed poorly on a standard field sobriety test, he was arrested and transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, where a breath intoxilyzer test revealed he was over the legal limit."

Monceaux was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged on a $51,500 bond.
