WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

A 'blessing box' in Wichita Falls is back up after being vandalized last Wednesday.

"I got a call from someone here at church saying they saw the box on the ground. It was in the middle of the day so I drove over here to see what was going on. Someone had taken it and ripped it off the pole," Jeremy Aaron, Director of the Corner Community Center said.

The box is located on the corner of 11th and Bluff in downtown Wichita Falls and has been up for nearly a month.

Aaron took the box back to his office to see if there was anything that could be done to fix it.

The plexiglass window was damaged and the back of the box was ripped off the post where it was attached.

"A guy from church helped me rebuild it. So, it's back in action now," Aaron said.

The box was back up by Friday.

"We were disappointed, of course. We weren't naive. We knew it was probably inevitable. It did last a while longer than some of us thought," Aaron said.

But Aaron said they were not deterred. They had a plan in place if something like this were to happen.

"It's pretty devastating that it happened here. You would think that something good like that would do good for our community and I think they should keep on trying to keep putting it back up. Hopefully, it doesn't continue to happen," Wichita Falls resident Crystal Merkel said.

People have asked Aaron what he would do when the box is destroyed. He said he'd put another one back up.

"One lady I spoke with said coming (to the box) to get a donation is a bright spot in her day. It's people like that who make it worth while. As many times as we can put it back up, we will," Aaron said.

Aaron said there will be no enhanced surveillance on the box. Putting a camera on the outside of The Corner building would defeat the anonymous aspect of the box.

But he did say if vandalizing becomes a problem they would consider moving it to another location.

Aaron does not want to punish everyone in the community for the actions of one person. That is a move John Coker of Charlie, Texas can get behind.

"It's a good thing for good people like that to be resilient. Don't back down in the face of adversity. It's only meant to test you and show you how good you are," Coker said.

Overnight, we will have clouds clear and will become mostly clear. Temperatures will slowly fall to the mid 70s. It will feel very warm due to the humidity. Heat indices will be in the 80s, throughout the night. Monday, the day of the eclipse, there is just a 30% chance of rain, so we will most likely have a few clouds during the time of the eclipse. There could be a few showers around the peak of the eclipse, but more likely, at least some clouds.
