Lightning strikes Empire State Building

(CNN) - Amazing video out of New York City caught the exact moment lightning hit the Empire State Building Monday.

You can see the city light up and then the lightning strike.

New York is experiencing severe weather fueled by hot temperatures.

The storms started mid-afternoon creating flash floods in the area.

The Empire State Building acts as a lightning rod for Manhattan. It's struck an average of 23 times per year.
