Former McNeese Cowboy Kleon Penn signed to Timberwolves training camp deal

LAKE CHARLES, LA - Kleon Penn, McNeese's No. 2 shot blocker in school history who played from 2007-09, and who plays professionally in Puerto Rico, has been signed by the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves to a training camp deal.

The 29-year old and native of the U.S. Virgin Islands is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year in the National Superior Basketball (BSN) league, where he has played six seasons. 

"For now, I'm just in training camp," he said. "I'm just happy to have the opportunity."

Penn, who stands 7'0, ranked second in the BSN last season with 88 blocked shot for an average of 2.2 per game and also averaged 4.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.

At McNeese, Penn accumulated 264 career blocked shots over three years, ranking second on the school's all-time career blocked shots list to Edmond Lawrence. He led the Southland Conference in the 2007-08 season with 4.0 blocks per game.

Training camp for all NBA teams begin on Sept. 29.
