BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Retired Lieutenant General Russel Honore announced Wednesday that he will not be running for governor of Louisiana.

The Pointe Coupee Parish native became a household name nationwide following Hurricane Katrina as he stepped in to help with recovery efforts. That's when he coined his famous phrase "don't get stuck on stupid."

Honore said Wednesday he believes he can best serve the state not as governor, but by working to "reorder our political priorities" and by holding elected officials accountable. He has become a big environmental activist.
