BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission laid out its plan to cut down on drunk driving Tuesday.

Each year, the state's Impaired Driving Task Force has to come up with a plan to try and prevent drunk driving in order to receive money from the federal government.

In addition to DWI patrols and check points, the commission hopes to add some new approaches.

"We also have some other projects within the plan," said LHSC Executive Director John LeBlanc. "We do some funding with MADD to do some courtroom monitoring. We are looking at some contracts with AMBUS services to provide blood draws for law enforcement checkpoints."

In all, the task force is hoping to land $2 million in federal money to pay for the programs.

Another cold front on its wayAnother cold front on its way

For the rest of today, the sunshine will help dry up the roads and melt any ice today. The temperatures will remain cold today, but will get above freezing later this afternoon. However, temperatures will remain in the 30s. Those few hours where we are above freezing will be helpful to melt the ice and improve road conditions. Tonight, temperatures will be cold once again. There is another hard freeze warning in effect tonight.
