NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A jury on Friday determined that the Lafon nursing home breached its duty to protect a resident who suffered and died after Hurricane Katrina.

Nuns from the Sisters of the Holy Family ran the nursing home in New Orleans East during the storm.

Jurors voted to award the family of Francis Robinette $1 million. Robinette died in December 2005.

Twenty-two people from Lafon died in the storm's aftermath.
