Agnes DeRouen in the KPLC newsroom with a look at what we're working on for 7 News at Noon.

Hurricane protection in Louisiana has become a story of haves and have-nots. New hurricane defenses, including new, stronger levees and a surge barrier in New Orleans that's rated the world's largest flood defense structure are making news, but what about the folks outside the flood walls? We'll take a look at noon, and you can learn more HERE.

Plus, an investigation of certain dog bones found at some retailers shows they may be making dogs seriously sick. Watch for the story at noon, and you can also have a look HERE.

We'll also have the story of a 9th grader at Sam Houston High School who is being recognized as one of the top students in the country who aspire to be a scientist or a technologist. Turns out, she was nominated by astronaut Buzz Aldrin! Check out her story HERE.

In weather, we can expect mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies with heat and humidity being the real story of the day. It will feel like the lower 90s by this afternoon. What about tomorrow and into the holiday weekend? Meteorologist Ben Terry will have the answers during his live, local forecast at noon.

Remember, if you're away from the TV, watch us live at http://bit.ly/1lCk0p5 or through the KPLC News and Weather Apps for Apple or Android devices.

Have a great day!
