Woman serving 30 years for cruelty to a juvenile to be resentenced

Good Afternoon,

Lee Peck in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we're working on today.

Severe weather rolled through Southwest Louisiana earlier today. I got caught up in it while finishing up some Christmas shopping. But the worst of it was to our north in Beauregard Parish, where some folks experienced golf ball sized hail. Meteorologist Zack Fradella is in and will tell us what we can expect heading into the Christmas holiday.

Plus, she was convicted and sentenced to 30 years for abusing her former stepson. The Third Circuit Court of Appeal now says the sentence was too harsh. We'll explain.

Also, this weekend family and friends laid to rest Calcasieu Parish Police Jury James Mayo -- a man many describe as always working to make Calcasieu a better place to live. Under state law the Police Jury must appoint a replacement for Mayo within 20 days. KPLC's Erica Bivens will have live preview tonight from a special meeting, where they plan to name his replacement.

We hope you'll join us tonight at Five and Six. Until then, we're always on at kplctv.com.
