Truck full of frozen chickens catches fire on I-10

Good Wednesday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here with a look at what's in store on today's Sunrise:

*An overturned truck full of frozen chickens catches fire near the Jennings-Evangeline exit on I-10 westbound.  Louisiana State Police are working to clear the crash site, but advise the lane may be closed for the next six hours.  We have a photographer on the way to the scene to bring us live video of the wreck.

*The wait could soon be over for the opening of the Golden Nugget Casino-Resort in Lake Charles.  Find out when guests can book their rooms in the $700 million facility.

*Tougher rules may be on the way for child care centers and preschool programs in Louisiana.  The changes add fingerprint-based criminal background checks for employees and volunteers.  Will BESE members vote for or against this proposal?  We have a preview of the vote this morning.

*SOWELA Chancellor, Dr. Neil Aspinwall, is our Sunrise guest this morning.  He will be talking about the expansion of three in-demand programs equipping students for the workforce and upcoming job opportunities.

Make it a Sunrise day!

We are in the middle of August, and therefore the dog days of summer. That means hot temperatures in the afternoon. For the next few days, afternoon temperatures will be at least 91 degrees. Heat indices could reach up to 110 degrees. That is reaching dangerous levels, especially when spending an extended time outdoors.  After just a few minutes being outside and exposed in the sun, or even in the shade, the heat can cause illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
