BEAUREGARD PARISH, LA (KPLC) - State police have identified the man who was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon after allegedly trying to run over authorities during a pursuit.
Sgt. James Anderson, spokesman for Troop D, said Jacob A. Navarre, of DeRidder, died in a deputy-involved shooting on La. 1147 near Dry Creek.
"The initial investigation indicates that Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance involving Navarre," Anderson said Thursday in a news release. "Navarre fled the scene and deputies attempted to apprehend him on La. 1147, about 2 1/2 miles northwest of La. 113.
"As deputies attempted to apprehend Navarre, he reportedly attempted to strike the deputies with his vehicle."
Anderson said deputies then fired at Navarre, who was pronounced dead at the scene, in self-defense.
The Beauregard Sheriff's Office requested state police handle the investigation, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting.
"The names of the deputies involved are not being released at this time," Anderson said. "The case remains under investigation."
A deputy was injured after being hit with Navarre's vehicle. The deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, Anderson said.
