Volunteers helping DeRidder veteran repair home

Good Evening,

Lee Peck in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we're working on for Nightcast.

We told you last week about a 78-year-old DeRidder veteran released from the hospital without a place to go. Tonight, we'll show how local volunteers are stepping up to fix his dilapidated home. KPLC's Erika Ferrando has the story.

Plus, a house fire in Lake Charles leaves a family of 10 homeless. KPLC's Monica Grimaldo reports not only how the America Red Cross has stepped in to help but also how they train their employees to offer the necessary support during disasters and emergencies.

Say goodbye to pencils, notebooks, and hard cover textbooks. As KPLC's Haley Rush explains, one school in Calcasieu Parish is using technology to lift the burden of heavy backpacks.

We'll also bring you the sounds of "Women in Jazz" - a special concert put on by the Jazz in the Arts program.

We also hope you got out and enjoyed this Sunday. This amazing weekend weather continued today. Meteorologist Zack Fradella has the forecast.

We hope you'll stay up late with us after NFL Football. Until then, we're always on at kplctv.com.
