Vietnam veteran honored for sacrifice 50 years after death

Good Afternoon,

Lee Peck in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we are working on today.

He died more than 50 years ago serving in Vietnam. Today the Lake Area came together to honor the life and sacrifice of Corporal Donald Ray Stevens. KPLC's Erica Bivens was there for the ceremony and has the story.

Plus, it was a patriotic display in Sulphur this morning. From the big car show to boudin wars, KPLC's Monica Grimaldo has us covered at the annual Stars & Stripes event.

And, Colors for a Cause continues to fight and raise awareness for childhood cancer. KPLC's Erika Ferrando takes you to Westlake, where hundreds continued the mission started by a very special 10 year old.

And it's the Cowboys' home opener against Prairie View A&M. While die hard MSU tailgaters have been partying all day outside Cowboy Stadium, KPLC's Rebecca Cade takes us inside for a pre-game preview.

And, Meteorologist Zack Fradella has a look at our game day forecast.

We'll see you tonight at Six. Until then, we're always on at kplctv.com.

We are in the middle of August, and therefore the dog days of summer. That means hot temperatures in the afternoon. For the next few days, afternoon temperatures will be at least 91 degrees. Heat indices could reach up to 110 degrees. That is reaching dangerous levels, especially when spending an extended time outdoors.  After just a few minutes being outside and exposed in the sun, or even in the shade, the heat can cause illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
