Grieving parents hold balloon release in Westlake

Good Afternoon,

Lee Peck in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we are working on today.

Losing a loved one can be hard, especially a child. Parents, who have lost a child, gathered today to not only remember their children but also send a message to other grieving parents. KPLC's Erika Ferrando has the story.

Plus, hunters were more than ready to take aim. KPLC's Monica Grimaldo gets up early to witness the start of dove hunting season.

And, it's gator hunting with a twist. KPLC's Erica Bivens takes you to the 4th annual "Chute N Gators Fly-In" event.

Also some scattered showers still popping up around Southwest Louisiana this weekend. Meteorologist Zack Fradella has your forecast.

The McNeese Cowboys on the road in the season opener against the Nebraska Corn Huskers. KPLC's Rebecca Cade is on the Sports desk and will have the highlights.

We'll see you tonight at Six for these stories and more. Until then, we're always on at kplctv.com.

Through the rest of today expect skies to remain partly cloudy.  Unfortunately, this does not help our temperatures much as highs will get into the 90s and feels-like temperatures will be in the triple digits.  We do have a slight breeze along and south of the I-10 corridor between 5-10 mph helping to keep air flowing.  Tonight, temperatures will still be warm not dropping out of the mid 70s across southwest Louisiana.
