CHULA VISTA, CA (KGTV/CNN) – In California, a man in a wheelchair-turned-robbery suspect led police on a chase through downtown San Diego on Tuesday.

It started after the man was confronted by a Kmart employee for stealing several items.

That's when he reportedly pulled out a gun and took off.

Officers were called to the scene, prompting the chase. Authorities used spike strips to help bring the wheelchair accessible van to a stop.

Police quickly handcuffed the gun-toting suspect and took him into custody after he surrendered.
