Calcasieu Police Jury to hold informational meetings for unemployed

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and the Louisiana Workforce Commission will hold informational meetings throughout September for unemployed Calcasieu residents.

The meetings will be held at the Business and Career Solutions Center on 2424 Third St. in Lake Charles.

"The purpose of these meetings is to offer individuals training in industrial crafts, gas and oil, shipbuilding and other occupations in demand," said the police jury in a statement.

Long term unemployed residents (unemployed for 27 weeks or more), recently separated veterans and individuals likely to exhaust Unemployment  Insurance benefits are invited to attend.

Registration is required and is available at www.cppj.net/wib. Participants must bring a state-issued picture ID and a Social Security Card.

Meeting dates and times are: Sept. 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26 and 29 at 1:30 p.m., Sept. 15, 22 and 29 at 9 a.m.

    The Calcasieu Parish Public Library annual summer reading program is underway. The kick-off celebration was held at Prien Lake Park. It included registration, face painting, kite flying, bird house building and even Clifford the Big Red Dog. The reading program runs from now until July 7.
