(RNN) - Apple released a statement on the hacking of female celebrities' iCloud accounts that resulted in nude photos posted on the internet.

The company is investigating how private pictures of Jennifer Lawrence and other actresses were stolen and posted on the website 4chan.

According to Apple, its 40-hour investigation revealed the attack was "very targeted" on specific user names, passwords and security questions.

"None of the cases we have investigated have resulted from any breach in any of Apple's systems, including iCloud or Find my iPhone," the release said.

On Monday, representatives for Lawrence stated the Oscar-winning actress requested an investigation into naked photos of her appearing online. Hackers reportedly accessed Apple's iCloud storage system to steal images of several female celebrities.

Photographs of Lawrence, along with other celebrities, appeared online Sunday night.

Other celebs also spoke out, including movie actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She lashed out on Twitter, saying, "To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves."

"Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked," she wrote.

Hackers also posted photos allegedly showing Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney, singer Ariana Grande and former Nickelodeon actress Victoria Justice. Maroney, Grande, and Justice all denied the photos were real.
