University of Louisiana at Lafayette student Allison McCormick will attend the Pontifical Council of Culture's International Seminar "Sport is for Man" on September 1-3 in Vatican City.

McCormick serves as a Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) missionary for the Ragin' Cajuns Catholics Student Ministry on the UL Lafayette campus.

"The seminar is on the occasion of the Interreligious Game for Peace and will conclude with a general audience with Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square," said the RCCSM in a news release. "Activities include testimonies, debates and round table discussions with delegates of national and international Catholic Sport Associations and Sports for All Associations."

"Sports are a huge industry, and many people look to athletes as leaders," said McCormick in a statement. "If they know that we, as missionaries, invest in them, love them and share the Gospel with them, it will help mold that generation of young leaders."

Accompanying McCormick will be Ben Domingue, a Lafayette native and FOCUS missionary for the University of Texas at Austin, and Lendai Del Rio, UL Lafayette alumna and wife of the Denver Broncos head coach Jack Del Rio.
