(NBC News) – Residents and businesses in Napa, CA are picking up the pieces after being jolted by the worst earthquake to hit the San Francisco Bay Area in a quarter century.

The 6.0 quake that struck at 3:20 Sunday morning couldn't have come at a worse time for the region's $13 billion wine industry, which was already struggling to get through a serious drought and preparing to harvest this year's grapes.

Most of the 500 or so wineries in Napa Valley reported minor damage, but some lost as much as 50 percent of their wine inventory.

Others who thought they had escaped unscathed are finding upon closer inspection that there's damage they hadn't seen before.
