Calcasieu libraries announce programs for Aug. 31-Sept. 6

The following is a news release from Calcasieu Parish Public Library:

Notice: All Calcasieu Parish Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, September 1, for the Labor Day holiday. Materials may be dropped off in the Book Drop boxes located at each branch.

Items can be renewed online at www.calcasieulibrary.org and clicking on the My Account icon at the top of the page. 

Patrons can also renew items by calling 437-4153 or toll free at 1-800-240-0212, and following the directions you hear. A library card number and PIN number will be needed for both.


Various Calcasieu Parish Public Library locations have announced the following events for Aug. 31 to Sept. 6:

Programs for adults:

Central Library, 301 W. Claude Street, 721-7116

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 31. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 5:00 p.m.

Tech Tuesdays:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2.  Library staff will assist those who want to learn more about their digital devices. 

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 12:00 p.m.

Maker Hours:  4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4.  Visit the Innovation Studio at Central Library every Thursday evening to tinker with fun technology.  For more information visit www.calcasieulibrary.org/innovatelibrary.

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 6:00 p.m.

Raking in the Fun:  10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4.  Adults will enhance tin cans with leaves and autumn colors.  Registration is required.

Sketched Glass Sand Art:  6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4.  Adults will decorate a vase with sand and sketching.  Registration is required.

Book Discussion:  4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2.  Adults will discuss “Six Years” by Harlan Coben.

Stories about the Louisiana Traveler and the History of KPLC:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2.   KPLC news anchor, John Bridges, will share his stories and experiences.

Animanga Club:  4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4.  Teens who love Anime or Manga will meet to share and learn more about the culture surrounding them.  Registration is required.

Teen Advisory Board:  10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6.  The Central Library TAB group will help choose library YA programs, plan new clubs/groups, and give their opinion on what is popular with teens in the community.  Registration is required.

Fun with Fideaux:  6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 2.  The SWLA Humane Society will bring trained therapy dogs to the library where children can read a book aloud to them. Each dog is supervised by their handler.
