Passenger is arrested at a Cleveland airport after trying to carry a pistol aboard the vessel.

On August 22, around 6:30 a.m., the Transportation Security Administration discovered a firearm at a Cleveland Hopkins International Airport checkpoint.

After TSA noticed the unloaded Bryco .25 caliber pistol in the passenger's carry-on bag, airport police took possession of the bag and arrested the passenger.

While it is legal for firearms to be transported in checked baggage in the case that the airline has been made aware and the unloaded weapon is transported in a proper carrying case, guns are prohibited in carry-on bags.

Passengers are reminded to thoroughly search their bags for any potential dangerous weapons or prohibited items before departing for the airport.

TSA warns that having firearms in travel bags on the aboard an airplane is dangerous to other travelers and can be easily mistaken as trying to conceal a prohibited item.

"Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the checkpoint," said Mark Howell, TSA spokesman. "Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items."

This is the fourth firearm discovered at security checkpoints by TSA officers at Hopkins this year.  A total of eight firearms were found at the airport's checkpoints in 2013.
