La. lawmakers head to Oklahoma to explore options for replacing Common Core

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A group of Louisiana legislators is heading to Oklahoma to figure out what's next for Common Core.

Six state representatives want to explore options for replacing the education standards. The delegation going to Oklahoma is made of the following lawmakers:

State Rep. Brett Geymann, R-Lake Charles

State Rep. Cameron Henry, R-Metairie

State Rep. Lance Harris, R-Alexandria

State Rep. Kenny Harvard, R-Jackson

State Rep. Bob Hensgens, R-Abbeville

State Rep. Rogers Pope, R-Denham Springs

They want to discuss academic standards that are state controlled. In June, Oklahoma became the third state to withdraw from Common Core.

The Louisiana legislators making the trip are among those who tried, but failed, to pass a bill to repeal Common Core during the spring legislative session.
