Director arrested in case of bizarre band room bondage

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A Georgia high school band director has been arrested after police said he engaged in a "sex act" at a school he previously worked at in Alabama.

Thomas County Central High School band director Lance Gainous, 32, was taken into custody in Thomasville Wednesday. The Brewton, AL Police Department said in a news release that Gainous was arrested on a charge of a 'School Employee Engaging in a Sex Act.'

Investigators said he had sexual contact with at least eight high school girls over a period of three years while working in Brewton.

Police said Gainous confessed to tying up the girls and gagging them in the sex acts at the school band room and at his home.

Officials said this is the first charge in a large criminal investigation involving Gainous, who was previously employed with the Brewton City School System for six years. He resigned in June to take a position with Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, GA.

Brewton officers traveled to Thomasville Wednesday to interview Gainous. After several hours of investigation, Gainous was arrested on a Class B Felony.

Gainous was booked into the Thomas County Jail and extradited to Alabama late Thursday evening. Brewton Police said additional charges are expected, but did not provide specific details.
