Officials report hydrochloric acid leak at chemical plant

GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) -

A hydrochloric acid leak at a chemical plant briefly shut down operations overnight, according to authorities.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported it happened at the Rubicon plant off LA 75 in Geismar.

Deputies said another plant in the area was under shelter-in-place orders during the leak.

Officials said the release was under control around 2:30 a.m. and everything was back to normal.

No other information was provided by authorities.
