SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA (KPLC) - Lake Charles Regional and DeQuincy Industrial Airpark are getting a makeover, thanks to grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The grants are from the Airport Improvement Program and will be used for improvements and repairs.

Heath Allen, executive director of Lake Charles Regional, said the grant will be used to replace the current lighting system on the runway with LED lighting. He said LED lighting lasts longer, and it is less expensive to operate.

Lawrence Henagan, DeQuincy mayor, said the grant money will be used to repave the runway at DeQuincy Industrial Park. He said the current runway has cracks in certain spots.

Both Allen and Henagan said the grant is crucial for development.

KPLC's Haley Rush will have more on later editions.
