SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) -

Contractors are preparing to demolish Matt Walker Memorial Stadium in Sulphur this week.

The main machine to help demolish the stadium was brought in Monday.

Architect E.J. Ellender said safety is the main concern. He said students walk to and from the main campus and the ninth-grade center, passing the stadium daily. An extra fence has been put up around the area to ensure students' safety.

An official date and time has not been set for demolition, but Ellender said it will most likely be in the middle of this week.

Last year, voters approved an $8 million bond issue to renovate the aging stadium.

The Tors will play all of their home games this season at John J. Mims Memorial Stadium in Lake Charles.

Officials have said they expect the new stadium to be open in time for the start of the 2015 season.

    Sunday, March 26 2017 5:12 PM EDT2017-03-26 21:12:21 GMT
Mostly cloudy skies MondayMostly cloudy skies Monday

Overnight we will have partly cloudy skies. There is a chance for fog to develop again overnight, but only if the wind calms down enough. Temperatures will be mild with lows in the middle 60s. Monday, we will have mostly cloudy skies. Throughout the day, we could also see a couple areas with drizzle. No significant rain is expected. So, if you see any light showers, it will pass by quickly. Temperatures will still be warm with highs in the lower 80s. Tuesday should be a great day!
