DEQUINCY, LA (KPLC) -

A 21-year-old DeQuincy man was indicted Thursday in connection with a June 13 assault and stabbing at a home in the 600 block of North Avenue.

Jon Dalton McCarty, who turned himself in on July 11 after being wanted for a month, was indicted on a charge of attempted second-degree murder and domestic abuse battery.

Authorities said McCarty punched his girlfriend and knocked her to the ground during a domestic disturbance. Another man attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the chest by McCarty, authorities said.

McCarty's father has told KPLC he believes the stabbing was in self defense when someone who was told to leave his house refused.
