SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA (KPLC) -

The SEC Network, which is promising more than 1,000 live events this year, debuted Thursday afternoon.

Suddenlink customers in the Lake Area can watch on channels 34 (standard) and 800 (digital). For DirecTV customers, it will be on channel 611, while Dish Network has it on channels 404 and 408. To find out if the network is available in your area, go to http://getsecnetwork.com/channel-finder

The channel will provide coverage of the most powerful conference in college sports, and SEC officials said they think it will increase revenue. Getting the network off the ground -- with operations at 14 different campuses -- wasn't easy or inexpensive.

Some schools needed to build professional studios, upgrade technology and hire a video staff.

"A lot of our schools had done a good amount of work already in the infrastructure for this, while others had a little further along to go," said Charlie Hussey, SEC associate commissioner for network relations. "But we'll be ready for launch day."
