A 16-year-old student at Barbe High School was struck by a vehicle while crossing a crosswalk at about 7:18 a.m. on Wednesday.

The student was crossing inside a marked crosswalk at McNeese St. when Lake Charles Police say a driver failed to yield to the pedestrian.

"The driver advised that the glare from the sun had caused (the driver) not to see the pedestrian until the last moment," said Deputy Chief Mark Kraus with the LCPD in a news release.

The student was taken to Lake Area Medical Center, where she received treatment for what appear to be minor injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
