Calcasieu libraries announce programs for August 17-23

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The following is a news release from Calcasieu Parish Public Library:

Various Calcasieu Parish Public Library locations have announced the following programs for August 17-23:

Programs for adults:

Central Library, 301 W. Claude Street, 721-7116

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 5:00 p.m.

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 12:00 p.m.

Central Library Book Club:  6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20.  The Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month.  This month adults will discuss “The Aviator’s Wife” by Melanie Benjamin.

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 6:00 p.m.

DeQuincy Library, 102 W. Harrison St., 721-7087, 786-4213 (DeQuincy residents)

Tin Can Treasures:  10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 21.  Adults will make an ornate tin box.  Registration is required.

Epps Memorial Library, 1320 North Simmons St., 721-7090

Epps Memorial Book Discussion:  6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21.  Adults will discuss “Ruth’s Redemption” by Marlene Banks. 

Doctor Whooligans:  3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 23.  Adults who enjoy the TV show “Doctor Who” will meet and discuss everything related to the series.

Fontenot Memorial Library, 1402 Center St., Vinton, 721-7095

Coffee and History:  9:30 a.m., Monday, August 18.  Patrons in the community will share photos and articles of history about the surrounding area.

Exploring the CPPL Website:  10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20.  Adults will explore the library website and learn about our resources. 

Iowa Library, 107 East First St., 721-7101, 582-3597 (Iowa residents)

Iowa Arts and Crafts Festival:  9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23.  The 6th Annual Iowa Arts and Crafts Festival will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Iowa Multipurpose Center located at 207 Highway 90 W.  Various artisans from around the community will display their art.  The festival is free and open to the public thanks in part to the Calcasieu Parish Public Library, the town of Iowa, Capital One Bank, and Coca Cola Bottling. 

Marble Vase Creations:  10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23.  Adults will make a colorful marble vase to take home.  This program will take place at the Iowa Arts and Crafts Festival.  Registration is required.

Southwest Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Library, 411 Pujo Street, 721-7110

Beginning Genealogy Workshop #3-Digital Genealogical Resources:  10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 21.  Armajean Declouet will provide information about various digital resources and aides available to genealogical researchers, including military records, land records, newspapers, and vital records.

Sulphur Regional Library, 1160 Cypress Street, 721-7141

Coffee and History:  10:00 a.m., Friday, August 22.  Thom Trahan, executive director of the Brimstone Museum, will share information, photographs, and artifacts relating to the history of Maplewood.

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  12:00 p.m., Monday, August 18.  The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 4:00 p.m.

Anime Club Meeting:  3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 20.  Teens interested in anime, manga, and Japanese culture will meet to discuss fall programming.

It’s a Plane:  4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 19.  Tweens will participate in a book talk and construct a paper airplane which will be used in activities.  Registration is required.

Step Right Up:  2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20.  Teenies will listen to three circus themed books and create a circus tent.
