Road open after plane lands on La. 108 in Carlyss

CARLYSS, LA (KPLC) - LA 108 is open after a pilot's emergency landing caused the highway to shut down for several hours. A plane traveling from Chennault to Orange, Texas had to make an emergency landing in Carlyss after its engine failed.

The pilot works for the Coast Guard Auxiliary and had just finished a mission earlier today.

No cars on the highway at the time were damaged and the pilot left the site with only a bump on his head.

"He kept it out of the plant, he kept anyone else from being injured, he sustained only minor injuries himself, so he did a masterful job landing this plane given the circumstances," Louisiana State Police Trooper James Anderson said.

Anderson said the pilot was flying a Piper Cherokee plane and the engine failed due to a mechanical failure.
