(RNN) - Anyone who still doubts "Weird Al" Yankovic is a hot commodity clearly has not heard the buzz pointing all the way to the Super Bowl.

A user named Ed Ball started a Change.org petition calling for the music artist, relishing the success of his new album Mandatory Fun, as the headliner in the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show. The petition had nearly 62,000 supporters and counting Thursday afternoon.

Come to think of it, a nerd with musical talent and the appearance of the least likely football fan ever playing at the biggest sporting event of our culture sounds interesting.

He already has a song stockpile to make fun of nearly every quirk in the game: overweight linemen (Fat); muscled jocks who give painfully bad interviews (Word Crimes); league executives who make decisions obviously not in the interest of fans (White & Nerdy); overpriced, greasy stadium food (Eat It).

We could go on.

"Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event," the petition stated.

Weird Al is obviously the people's choice.
