LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted the 15th annual Travel Media Showcase Wednesday at the L’Auberge Casino Resort.

"There's definitely a lot more, you know, to explore than I was ever aware," said Marc D'Entremont with Examiner.com and Luxe Beat Magazine. "It's my livelihood to be aware of these things!"

Nearly 175 travel journalists and industry professionals attended the national event. The conference consisted of one-on-one preset appointments, local and regional press tours and networking opportunities.

"Before I came to Lake Charles, it was never a destination that I was very familiar with or aware of," said Carri Wilbanks, a freelance travel writer based out of Denver, Colorado. "Now that I've been out here, you see so much of not only the deep rooted culture but a lot of tourist draws."

The conference also featured media tours where professionals experienced a taste of what Southwest Louisiana has to offer, including the Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge and the Mardi Gras Museum.

"I think with all of those elements and starting to see the food scene and the cuisine," said Wilbanks. "There's so much here to offer that I can see a lot of people coming out to make this a destination that they want to come visit."
