Wednesday morning chase suspect arrested on weapons, evading charges

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A chase that reached speeds of over 100 mph ended in Van Zandt County Wednesday morning.

The Garland Police Department says that an officer with the department spotted a vehicle traveling at speeds of over 100 mph on President George Bush Highway. The officer immediately began pursuit of the vehicle, which officers said was a black 2013 Chevrolet Impala.

Officers pursued the still-speeding suspect as he fled along I-30, west on I-30 to I-635, and southward onto I-20. Then the man went east on I-20.

DPS troopers in Van Zandt County deployed stop sticks that punctured the Impala's tires. He continued fleeing until his tires were flat. The pursuit lasted 30 minutes, police say. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Rodric Earl Wooten of Dallas. He was taken into custody at around 10 a.m. Officers say they found two loaded handguns on Wooten, and a loaded rifle inside his car.

Rodric Wooten was booked into the Garland jail where he is charged with Evading and Unlawful Carrying of Weapon. No bond has been set.

    Family members identify the victim as 29-year-old Kelli Bonnette. Her uncle, John Manning, says it also injured his 77-year-old Mother-in-law.  Four adults and three children were rescued from the fire. Nita Duplantis remains in the hospital fighting for her life according to the family.

    A towing vessel that was uninspected began taking on water, then ran aground in the Calcasieu Ship Channel early Monday morning, officials with the Coast Guard said. The three-man crew of the 60-foot towing vessel, the Mr. Landon, "purposefully ran their vessel aground near Monkey Island to avoid sinking when they realized they were taking on water in the stern," according to a news release from the Coast Guard 8th District Public Affairs Detachment Texas.
