SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA (KPLC) -

Good morning!

Agnes DeRouen in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we're working on for 7News@Noon.

A Cameron Parish inmate is back in custody Wednesday after escaping late Tuesday night. Billy James Lacombe was recaptured around 10:50 a.m. and two other people have been accused of assisting his escape. Authorities said Lacombe has an extensive criminal record -- including armed robbery and carnal knowledge of a juvenile. KPLC's Theresa Schmidt has been in Cameron all morning covering the search. Look for her updates at noon and you can get more http://bit.ly/1vaX6KR.

Also today, a new study shows just how deadly walking and texting can be. We'll tell you about a first of its kind study that uncovers who is most at risk. Find out more at http://bit.ly/1kHpwYI.

Over in Beauregard Parish, it is back-to-school time for some students – those on the four-day schedule. KPLC’s Haley Rush will share some of those "first day" moments at noon.

Plus, a Kansas dog walks 30 miles back to the family that initially gave her up. But that family still didn't want her – so, now the dog named "Lady" is living in the lap of luxury after being adopted by a millionaire heiress to the Wrigley fortune! Read more at http://bit.ly/XmeahR.

Ben tells me we can expect the same weather pattern for the next few days – meaning look for temperatures in the low to middle 90s and maybe a few isolated afternoon and evening storms. Will this continue into the weekend? Tune in at noon for Ben's live, local forecast for the answer.

Remember, if you're away from the TV watch us live at http://bit.ly/1lCk0p5 or through the KPLC News and Weather Apps for Apple or Android devices.

Have a great day everyone!

For the Oakdale Police Department one of their constant battles isn't necessarily with criminals, but instead with their phones. Their phone lines were down for most of the weekend, and just got back up yesterday, but this isn't the first time they've dealt with this.  The phones are ringing at the Oakdale Police Department now, but this past weekend that wasn’t the case.  “Friday evening our phones went down,” said police chief, Joseph Lockett. ...More >>
