CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a DWI and seat belt checkpoint Friday at an undisclosed location in the parish.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said the checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics as well as people who are not wearing their seat belt.

"They (the checkpoints) have proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted," Myers said Tuesday in a news release.

400 people were rescued from human trafficking last year in Louisiana alone... 30 people have been rescued, so far, this year. With tomorrow being "Shine a Light on Slavery Day", you can raise awareness by doing one simple task, drawing a red 'X' on the back of your hand. That red 'X' stands for the millions who cannot stand up for themselves. "We find people all the time who will do it and then their friends, their neighbors, or even their family...
