Thousands attend Redskins Fan Appreciation Day

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Fan appreciation day for the Redskins usually means a packed house and 2014 was no different. Despite a new ticket system for guaranteed entry, every fan who showed up to the training center got in, totaling more than 20,000.

And for many, it's an experience they won't soon forget. Little K'mare Morgan met his hero.

"RGIII signed my football," said Morgan.

"I'm gonna see my Ryan Kerrigan in action. I'd better get that autograph, though. I really want to wish him and the Redskins a winning season," said a fan.

Fans came from near and far. Ross McCann made a cross country voyage from San Francisco to see his beloved team.

"I love the Redskins. Twenty-plus years I've been a Redskins fan. It's finally nice to be around with the other fans," said McCann.

"I grew up watching them, so I just have always taken on that team," said Sonya Bynum.

Not everybody left with an autograph or picture today, but most in attendance had one common bond, a love for the Redskins and seeing them up close and personal was good enough for them.

"When football season is over I get into that funk kind of thing," said Rachael Moore, "But when the Redskins are in town I'm juiced and ready to go, so it's awesome."

"This is all I've ever wanted. At my age, which is 75, I think this is the thing to do. Come out to the field to see the Redskins," said Rita Cowans.
