Back to school shoppers take advantage of state tax holiday

Saturday is the last day to take advantage of the state tax holiday. You will not have to pay the 4-percent state sales tax up to $2,500 on the purchase price on many items.

It's a good time to get your school supply shopping out of the way.

Daniel Lopez was shopping for school supplies at Target and said, "We have to get some school supplies, backpacks stuff like that and save some money since we don't have to pay taxes today."

Shoppers are stocking up on backpacks, clothes, and school necessities. Most purchases exempt you from paying the state sales tax this weekend.

Brandy Snyder took advantage of the savings and said, "Back to school shopping- it gets expensive. It's not a whole lot but every little bit adds up."

The tax-free holiday ends Saturday night. The savings do not apply so some buys like hotel stays, vehicles, or eating out at restaurants.

A few showers possible this afternoonA few showers possible this afternoon

For the rest of today, we will continue to see a few pop up showers, particularly in the afternoon. Not everyone will see rain today. It will be a hot and humid day with highs reaching the lower 90s and heat indices in the mid to upper 90s. By the late afternoon into the early evening, we will start to cool down and showers will start to weaken and will come to an end. Through tonight, we will keep the rain chances low as all showers come to an end. We will have partly cloudy skies.
