Burns takes Junior PGA Championship; Barbaree and Jeansonne finish in top 10

Last year Sam Burns finished runner-up in the Junior PGA Championship. This year the Calvary Baptist golfer and LSU commit became the only other Louisiana golfer to win a Junior PGA Championship trophy, since David Toms won it in 1984.

Burns had a stellar 3rd round, shot a 65 and went into the final round of the tournament with at 4-stroke lead. Burns led by six shots through nine holes, but Gordon Neale cut the lead to one shot as he birdied three holes late.

Burns finished the final round with four straight pars and held on to win and become the 39th Junior PGA Champion. Burns earns an automatic spot in the PGA Tour's Texas Open next year in San Antonio, Texas and is an automatic qualifier for the United States Junior Ryder Cup team that will face the European team in Scotland next month.

Two other LSU commits and Shreveport golfers also finished in the top seven. C.E. Byrd's Philip Barbaree, finished in fifth place, -5 for the tournament. Burns' teammate at Calvary, Nathan Jeansonne finished in seventh place and finished -2 for the tournament.
