RAGLEY, LA (KPLC) -

A device used in explosive ordnance training caused quite a stir in Ragley Wednesday morning.

Authorities responded to a report of a suspicious device found in a garbage truck on Bill Gilbert Road.

"At around 8 a.m., we were alerted by some sanitation guys who noticed what appeared to be an explosive device in the tray of the trash truck," said Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Joe Toler. "They removed the item and placed it at the edge of the road. By all appearances, it (looked) like a homemade explosive device."

State police were called in and determined the device was harmless after talking with the resident where the trash came from. An official said the device will be disposed of properly.

Multiple witnesses said the road was blocked off and several homes in the area were evacuated.
