Every issue in a school always comes down to leadership. That’s one of the main points being driven at this year’s Calcasieu Parish School Board Leadership Summit.

“When you have a school that's very successful, a district that's very successful, or a classroom that's very successful, then it's the leadership," said keynote speaker, Todd Whitaker.

Owen Clanton will step foot in his first school as principal starting this school year. As a new leader, he said this gathering is helping him fix problems before they start.

“I like the opportunity to influence our children and the Lake Charles community and really and truly get us where we need to be,” said Clanton.

Pamela Beal is no new principal, but she’s eager to learn more.

“As a principal, I want to truly inspire and bring out the best in each and every teacher that I have,” said Beal.

More than 300 principals and assistant principals filled the Civic Center for the conference.
