Second round of severe storms hit Western MA

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

For the second time in a matter of hours, severe weather has wreaked havoc on Western Massachusetts.

A storm during the 6 p.m. hour produced heavy downpours, vivid lightning and reports of hail across the Springfield area.

CBS 3 crews witnessed the rain coming down so hard that manhole covers on Boland Way were being lifted off of the ground.

In Agawam, a tree toppled over onto two trailer homes on Springfield Street.

The Agawam Fire Department told CBS 3 that there were no injuries, but two residents needed assistance from the Red Cross.

Longmeadow also had its share of flooding, to go along with a toppled tree that stopped traffic from crossing Elmwood Avenue.

As of 11 p.m., Western Massachusetts Electric Company continues to show power outages across Hampden and Hampshire Counties, with Springfield still having over 200 customers without power.
