CROWLEY, LA (KPLC) - Crowley Police say they have arrested one suspect in connection with a cigarette theft ring in the Acadiana area.

According to Police Chief K.P. Gibson, the Crowley Police Department has been investigating complaints of the purchase of large quantities of cigarettes using unauthorized access cards.

"It is our belief that the suspect was buying these cigarettes with a pre-paid access card by fraudulent means... (and) that the suspect would resell the cigarettes for profit," said Gibson.

Officers located the suspect at a business on North Parkerson Ave., where he then fled on foot. After a short pursuit, 23-year-old Jeremy Ingram of Savannah, Georgia, was arrested on charges of felony theft and resisting arrest.

Ingram was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail, where he is being held on outstanding warrants from Lafayette Police.

Investigators say they located a large amount of cigarettes inside the suspect's vehicle.
