A Lake Charles woman has pleaded guilty to stealing over $250,000 from her employer.

Kristen Brady, 47, made her plea on Thursday before U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi.

"According to the evidence presented at the guilty plea, Brady worked for a Lake Charles rental company as a bookkeeper for 12 years before her employment was terminated in November 2013," said U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley in a statement.

"It was later discovered that she had forged authorizing signatures on more than 200 checks to her benefit in the company's name and, in the process, received $255,324 of which she was not entitled," said Finley.

Brady is charged with one count of bank fraud, with her sentencing set for October 30. She faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison, five years supervised release, restitution and a $1 million fine.

The Lake Charles Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service conducted the investigation in this case.
