Vehicle carrying beehives crashes on I-24 at state line

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A swarm of bees around a tractor-trailer is not a sight you typically see along side the interstate.

However Monday a semi hauling beehives was involved in an accident on Interstate 24 at the Tennessee-Kentucky state line.

"All I seen is the white vehicle come across, then that other truck with a trailer," said Thomas Gentry, who was hauling the bees.

"They're just swarming down there by the trailer," said Gentry. "They'll come back and get back in their hives."

Tony Pogribnichenko was South Dakota bound, heading west on I-24.

"We were just driving down the road here and someone decided to make a left turn in front of us to cut through the median and caused a major accident," said Pogribnichenko.

Witnesses said the SUV that caused the crash came to rest in the median.

The Chevy and trailer ended up in the eastbound lanes of I-24, not far from the semi-truck carrying dozens of beehives.

"The worst of my injuries is all those bee stings," said Pogribnichenko.

Charges are possible against the driver of the SUV who was attempting to turn around through the median cut-through.

Tonight will be very stormy with plenty of showers around. There will be heavy rain at times with some strong storms. Winds are likely to gust up to 20 mph. Most of the stronger and severe weather will stay to our north. It does not mean we will not see some outbreak. The severe risk for us is not zero. Rain chances for tonight are up to 80%. This rain is caused from a cold front that will stall over us, or slow down by Sunday. This will allow the rain to last most of our Sunday.
