Tropical depression No. 2 picked up more forward speed early Wednesday morning as it continues moving west-northwest over the Atlantic Ocean.
The US National Hurricane Center in Miami reported at 4 a.m. that the depression was located at 13.9 North and 53.2 West, or about 550 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
Maximum sustained winds remained at 35 mph and it was moving west-northwest at 20 mph. The fast-moving depression could approach the Lesser Antilles some time Wednesday night.
Little change in strength is expected through Wednesday, but it could pick up more forward speed over the next couple of days, according to reports.
Forecasters said the depression is likely to lose its tropical characteristics by Thursday, weakening into a trough of low pressure.
