SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - A Sulphur woman has been arrested by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and charged with filing a false police report.

Deputies with the CPSO responded to a complaint on June 10 that a woman had physically abused a 7-year-old juvenile, striking her buttocks and face and throwing the child against a wall, causing bruises and marks.

The complaint came from 19-year-old Stephanie McGehee, who authorities say later confirmed that she had filed a false report.

"When questioned by detectives, McGehee confirmed the allegations she made were not true, and the bruises and marks on the child were actually obtained during horseplay with another child after McGehee fell asleep while she was supposed to be babysitting the children," said Kim Myers, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, in a news release.

McGehee was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a charge of criminal mischief (filing a false report). Her bond was set at $2,000 by Judge Sharon Wilson.

If you noticed a small increase in your pay check from federal tax reform, it may be fleeting as state taxes go up. The Louisiana constitution says if federal taxes go down, state taxes go up. But tax preparer Jessica Fisher, who is an area manager for Jackson Hewitt, says the offset should still leave you with a little somethin...
