Raceland couple accused in rape, abuse of young children

RACELAND, LA (WVUE) -

A Raceland couple has been arrested in connection with the physical abuse of four children and the rape of three, all younger than 13.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office first came to the home in the 300 block of Greenville St., Raceland to look into a case of physical child abuse.

"When deputies arrived on scene, they could see visible bruising on the child. Immediately [we] called out juvenile detectives who opened up an investigation. [They] realized that there were three other children involved in potential physical abuse," said Deputy Brennan Matherne with the Sheriff's Office.

The investigation showed the abuse had been going on for awhile.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says not only did Brandy Triche, 27, and her boyfriend, 30-year-old Christopher Gaudet, hit and punch the four children, Gaudet is also accused of forcing three of them to engage in sexual acts with him.

Deputies say all four kids were under 13.

"These types of investigations with children seem to be the toughest," said Matherne. "You have to relive the events with the children and then talk to the offenders involved. It can be very difficult."

The Sheriff's Office would not say if the children were related to Triche or Gaudet. All four are now in the custody of Louisiana Child and Family Services. Triche faces four counts of cruelty to a juvenile with force. She's being held on a $50,000 bond. Gaudet faces the same charges, plus three additional counts of aggravated rape. His bond was set at $350,000.

Both are being held at the LaFourche Parish Jail.

Tonight, the rain will come to an end. Particularly after midnight. There will be a few showers before then that could bring heavy rain. By first thing Monday morning, there should not be any more rain around us. Rain chances are up to 60% tonight, but will fall after midnight. Temperatures will also be cooler. Some places may see the lower 50s! That would be much closer to where we should be this time of the year.
